The Art of the Win: The Charleston

Release the Extremes: Prioritize passing 1s, 8s, and 9s. On this year’s card, these tiles lack the versatility required for most winning patterns.

Discard Isolated Winds: A lone Wind tile is a burden, not an asset. If it hasn’t found a partner early, let it go.

Cherish Your Pairs: A pair is the rarest gift of the deal. While sequences can be built, a match must be found; never break a pair prematurely.

Protect the Specials: Treat Dragons and Flowers with care. They serve as the foundational “glue” for the 2025 card’s most elegant hands.

A Letter From the Founder

Welcome to your local American Mahjong Community!

The Ann Arbor Mahjong Club was born from a simple desire: to bring the timeless elegance of American Mahjong to our local community. My goal is to provide more than just lessons; I want to offer an elegant escape where you can master a new skill, disconnect from the digital world, and reconnect with neighbors over a beautiful set of tiles. I started this club to share the joy of a game that truly lasts a lifetime, and I am so glad you’ve found a seat at our table.

             Sincerely,

julie morris  (table name: blue dragon)
